I read a few books about Irish history in preparation for my visit to Dublin last year, including The Graves are Walking by John Kelly and Bitter Freedom: Ireland in Revolutionary World by Maurice Walsh. Do you have any Irish history recommendations?
Of course - Roy Fosters 'History of Modern Ireland' is a great survey of Ireland from 1600-1972 - though he is quite revisionist in his interpretations.
W.E.H. Lecky's work on 18th century Ireland is foundational - though it is naturally outdated in some regards.
Thomas Bartlett's, 'Ireland: a History' is another great one.
Similarly, there are Oxford and Cambridge histories of Ireland that are done over multiple volumes.
Enjoyed this.
