Hello! This post deviates from the norm in that it is to share some personal news. I have just had my first publication for an history article.
Around the same time I began writing this blog, I wrote a piece for History Ireland, the only Irish history magazine in the country. It told the story of a man called Revd. William Jackson - a story of intrigue and treason. Jackson was the first to face a charge of treason in Ireland in a century and it placed him in the hall of martyrs for the United Irish cause in the 1790s. I argue that his trial was the match that lit the fuse for United Irish radicalisation in 1795 - where reform became revolution.
I first wrote about Jackson for the Maynooth University Library blog back in May and decided to write a longer form version and submit it for publication. I was fortunate for it to be accepted and it is now out in the current issue! It can be picked up in a lot of newsagents and good independent bookshops.
There will be more to come about Jackson on this blog series - the intention is to have a much more detailed examination of his life. It will encompass several parts, the amount of which I am not certain of just yet. Until then, if you can, pick up a copy of History Ireland - or shoot me an email and I can send you screenshots!
All best,
Ruairí.
